Castlelaw Project

A light filled contemporary home in Edinburgh
This contemporary self-build home was designed to be bright, spacious and architecturally striking, with vaulted ceilings, exposed timber beams, rooflights, generous glazing and a strong connection between the main living areas.
The client was moving from a large Victorian house and wanted the new home to feel modern and practical, while still retaining warmth, character and a sense of familiarity. A key part of the interior design brief was to help much-loved existing furniture and artwork sit comfortably within the clean lines and open proportions of the new build.
The interiors bring together natural timber, soft neutral walls, warm accent colours, bespoke window treatments, layered textiles, considered lighting and carefully chosen finishes. Traditional pieces, patterned fabrics and personal details were balanced with contemporary architecture, creating a home that feels fresh and light, but also comfortable, welcoming and individual.
From the open-plan kitchen and living spaces to the guest bedrooms and fitted storage, the project focused on creating a cohesive home that supports everyday family life while reflecting the client’s personality and the character of the previous home.
