Creating a Harmonious Room

Harmonious Green Room Sofa

Do you find that once you have chosen the main pieces of furniture

for a space, that thrill of installation day and putting the items into place wanes?

Perhaps you stand back and realise it’s not making you feel the way you

imagined. The simple reason could be that you need to rejig the accessories

too.

The key to making a room feel harmonious is to view the colours

of your furniture as the cornerstone of the room. Take that hue and go a little

up and down the colour palette with the accessories in a balanced way and it

will look harmonious.

Imagine that you have painted your Sittingroom a neutral shade and have just invested in a forest green velvet sofa. To achieve a balanced room, you could follow these steps

  • Source green accessories that bring the colour around the room
  • Use the neutral shade for the window dressings but trim the edges with a green braid
  • When choosing coffee and side tables try to find something that links them without investing in the full matching set
  • Brass looks amazing against green and you wouldn't go wrong with a natural wood finish too
  • Remember that standard lamps are a key way to bring the colour to eye level so invest in a coloured shade in a quality silk or linen
  • Candle sticks and vases also work to create focal points on a console table, shelf, or cabinet. Remember to vary the hue of green
  • It’s also important to bring the colour down to the floor as this will pull the room together. Source a rug and a stool that blend the neutral base colours with the green sofa. If you are feeling brave this is a good point to bring in another colour. You can then take this and use it for the soft furnishings and cushions. Resulting in a balanced harmonious feeling room
